Gmail Offline - How To Setup

Gmail and Chrome users now have the full benefits of offline mail with the Gmail Offline App. Download your mail from the last week, two weeks or month. Of course it is Beta but the whole world is beta. !!

Most smartphones have a flight mode so ironically flying is now a great time to catch up on all old mail that has accumulated.

For power users, if you are logged in just go direct to the Chrome apps store at this link;-

Instructions

In your Gmail account in the top right hand corner click on the gear;-

In the dropdown select Mail Settings
Select the Offline tab
Click on Install Gmail Offline (this will take you to the Chrome Web Store)
In the top right corner click on Launch App
Allow offline mail
Click on Continue

This opens a two panel display which you can size, in the top right hand corner click on the gear.

This presents you with an option to download mail for the period you select and also to set your vacation responder.

In the left hand panel clicking on the button highlighted below toggles the view

As you make selection the view in the panel changes, e.g. if you selected Inbox the panel will change to your Inbox and as you click on Message it is displayed in the right hand panel.

Overall it is very straightforward for any Gmail user and offers a very nice clean crisp interface... you will be tempted to spend more time offline... ;-)

Note:

Copies of recent mail for whatever.is.your.email@somewhere.com will be synchronized and saved on your computer. If you're using a public or shared computer, don't allow offline mail. You can change this setting again later if you want. You can also specifically delete the offline stored mail if you want. IBM have produced a very interesting infographic detailing what happens in an internet minute;- as we all know a month is a long time in this business ;-) The key thrust of the story from Intel and CircleID is that government are a long way behind on all fronts... what is new !! a few key numbers;-

NYR's - Own Your Domain...

New Year Resolutions - Own Your Domain (at least)

We are constantly being asked to transfer in domain for clients and always come up against the same problem, the Owner is not You !!!

There are a number of elements to a domain record;-

the Owner
the Admin Contact or Admin-C
the Technical Contact or Tech-C
the Billing contact or Billing-C

then;-
the nameservers that actually direct your traffic to a specific location perhaps defined simply by an IP or an actual domain name.

The Admin C is nearly always the person who has been assigned to look after your domain name, this could be an internal person or more often it is your ISP, your Internet Services Provider.

This is fine since the Admin C only responds or only has to become involved when changes are being made to the the domain, changing hosts, modifying nameservers. It is a little like moving house (this is the guy that drives the truck full of furniture)...
if this person cannot be contacted this is where problems start...

When the Admin cannot be contacted or is being awkward then a communication can be sent from the Owner to the Registrar of the domain telling them to make a specific change.

What we often see is that the the company who initially organised the registration make themselves;-
the Owner, the Admin Contact, the Technical Contact and the Billing contact - all of these are fine since most companies prefer to delegate this to their ISP... except for Owner...

You should always be clearly listed as the Owner of your own domain otherwise you have no rights.. with regard to the specific domain, you do not Own it !!!. When you have difficulties then you will have to prove ownership and go through a process that takes time... irritating when your old ISP has died technically or otherwise and you must react quickly.

Bottom line - go to www.whois.net initially check your record, then go to the specific registrar for your domain, check the results... If you are not listed as the owner then contact the company who handled the registration and tell them to change it pronto... tell them don't ask them !!

There are a series of rules and regulations governing domain registration that each and every company must comply with, if you have problems use our contact form and we will be happy to advise/assist you.

RFI - Request for Information #12/1/1

Memeonics is a Google Apps Authorized Reseller and as such we require a very specific skill set. As we grow we anticipate a number of positions coming available in Q2/Q3 2012. In the first instance we are issuing this RFI to identify potentially suitable candidates for the following positions;-

Developer / Programmer / Analyst
Google Apps Consultant / Project Manager
Sales Manager / Representatives
Account Manager
Google Apps Deployment Engineer / Analyst

Whilst we are based in North Ireland the nature of cloud computing is such that a successful applicant could realistically be based anywhere. In order to do so effectively you must be a self starter comfortable with working remotely, highly independent yet able to collaborate easily in an electronic team environment. Subsequently we see operations established in a number of locations. The key movers will no doubt wish to be directly involved in the set-up, development and growth of their local office.

We are looking for smart, sharp people who really really want something more;-

more flexibility
more independence
more performance based bonuses
more of the pie
more challenge & passion

where we are now ;-)

We totally want people who will stick with Memeonics in the long term and gain the benefits as we all grow together.. (from where we are now)

Electronic devices and laptops in particular are Murphy magnets, they attract disaster. !!

Perhaps the probability of that beer with the loose cap being knocked over, beside your laptop by the cat just when you are 90% finished Mondays special presentation should be a very very very big number best calculated using a Drake Equation derivative...

Google Apps Mobile Management

Google Apps mobile management is Free for all Google Apps for Business, Education and Government customers. The Administrator can view reports, enforce device policies and remotely block or wipe a stolen device, additionally you can audit Apps that access your Google Apps via Android devices. Policies can be set by organisational unit (e.g. the Finance Dept) including password policies, encryption (dependent on Andriod version) , activation approval for user installed Apps accessing the Google Apps data. There are some limitations on the granularity of reports and controls depending on the type of device.

There is also a degree of self service possible for users who have installed the Google Apps device policy via their My Device page;- from there they can remotely reset the pin, ring the device or remotely locate if location is turned on.

Google today, released the new look "Google Bar". It will roll out gradually, but if you want to use it right now, just follow the instructions below.

You can modify the Google cookie within the Console in Chrome to activate the new UI.

Activate The New Google UI

If you use Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer 8+, open google.com in a new tab, load Chrome's JavaScript console (Ctrl+Shift+J), Firefox's Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+K), Safari's Web Inspector (how to do that?) or IE's Developer Tools (press F12 and select the "console" tab) and paste the following code:

Click on "Console " Tab

Now paste this cookie value into the Console page below. - Note you will have to replace "google.com" value in the cookie, with your country domain e.g "google.co.uk" if you are in the UK )

This is r(evolution) :-) - have you ever spent 25 mins in a big store just looking for the right department, never mind the right product !!
A big building can be as daunting as a big city, multiple levels of direction can easily lead to disorientation... bottom line, you get lost easy. Not any more, Google Maps is now extended to buildings. Indoor maps are currently available in selected locations in the U.S. and Japan. Check here as more locations are added..
